Wisdom Tooth Pain Relief in Palm Beach Gardens - Same-Day Exam

Wisdom tooth pain, that ache behind the last molar which makes chewing and even yawning sore, is seen the same day at our Palm Beach Gardens office on Northlake Blvd. Call first at (561) 867-8401; we hold a time for you rather than seeing walk-in visits. Our dentists X-ray the tooth, find out why it hurts, and treat it, whether that means calming an infected gum flap or taking the tooth out.

The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs you need wisdom tooth pain relief today

There's a handful of reasons a wisdom tooth hurts, and the fix depends on which one it is. The most common is a tooth that has only partly broken through the gum. The flap over it traps food, gets infected, and the back corner of the mouth swells. Chewing hurts, and there may be a bad taste from that spot.

A second cause is a tooth coming in sideways and pushing on the molar in front of it, a deep pressure ache that comes and goes for weeks. A third is plain decay, since a wisdom tooth is hard to reach with a brush and a cavity there goes unnoticed until it reaches the nerve. A fourth is a cyst around a tooth that never erupted, silent until the X-ray finds it.

Swelling that moves into the cheek or neck, fever, or a mouth that won't open wide enough to eat means the infection has moved beyond the gum. If you also have trouble swallowing or breathing, head to a hospital emergency room before anything else. The nearest is Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, about 3 miles away on Burns Rd. Hospitals treat spreading infection and injuries; they generally don't treat the tooth itself. We handle the tooth after you're released.

What happens at your same-day visit

First comes an X-ray that shows the whole wisdom tooth, its roots, and where the nerve canal runs in the lower jaw. Our dentist looks at the angle of the tooth, how much of it has erupted, and whether the bone around it is healthy. That answers the question most patients arrive with: does it have to come out?

Sometimes it doesn't. An infected gum flap is flushed out and treated, and you may be sent home with antibiotics and a rinse while the swelling settles. A cavity on an upright, reachable wisdom tooth can be filled. When the tooth is impacted, decayed past repair, or has infected the gum more than once, our dentist recommends removal, and that's done here. How removal works is covered on the emergency wisdom tooth extraction page. Whichever path it is, you get the written price before any treatment begins.

Cost of wisdom tooth pain relief in Palm Beach Gardens

Paying without insurance, you're charged $99 for the exam and X-ray. Treating the gum, filling the tooth, or removing it is quoted separately, in writing, once the X-ray shows what's needed.

If your plan is a PPO, HMO or Medicare Advantage dental plan, we bill it for the exam and X-ray. We also have in-house payment plans, plus Sunbit, Cherry and CareCredit financing. The cost and insurance page goes through it.

Why patients choose our Northlake Blvd office

We accept most PPO and HMO dental plans and Medicare Advantage dental plans. Spanish-speaking staff are on hand during office hours. There's parking on site, and 2025 was our first year here.

Frequently asked questions

If a wisdom tooth hurts, does it have to be pulled?

Not always. An infected gum flap can be treated, and a cavity on an upright wisdom tooth can be filled. Removal is recommended when the tooth is impacted, decayed beyond repair, damaging the molar in front, or infecting the gum repeatedly. Our dentist shows you the X-ray.

What helps wisdom tooth pain until I'm seen?

Warm salt water, swished after each meal and a few more times through the day, flushes the gum flap. Pain relievers from the drugstore help when you follow the label's directions. Something cold on the cheek eases swelling. Then call (561) 867-8401 so the tooth is looked at today.

Is this different from a regular toothache?

Mostly in the cause. A wisdom tooth usually hurts because of the gum around it or its position; other teeth hurt from decay or a crack. Our toothache relief page covers pain in the rest of the mouth. Swelling with pus: see dental abscess treatment.

Will wisdom tooth pain clear up by itself?

The gum infection sometimes calms down for a few weeks and then flares again when something gets trapped under the flap. Pain from a tooth pushing sideways doesn't resolve, because the tooth doesn't move out of the way. An X-ray now tells you what you're dealing with before the next flare.
